SHPONGLE The core members of Shpongle are Simon Posford and Raja Ram from the United Kingdom, along with many collaborators and guest musicians. Ott is also credited on all albums.
Their sound is a mix of mainly eastern ethnic samples and western contemporary psychedelic synth music. Posford is responsible for the synth and studio work while Raja Ram contributes with flute arrangements. They are both responsible for the visionary input. According to one interview, they commonly visualize the music together before and during the creation process.
Shpongle’s first tune, Vapour Rumours, was released on TIP Records’ Infinite Excursions compilation in 1996. Their debut album, Are You Shpongled?, was released 1998 on Twisted Records. The high sound quality, successful mix of samples, instruments and synths along with the story and progress of the music through the album made it one of the most cutting edge releases of that time. Are You Shpongled? and Twisted Records’ first downtempo compilation, Eclipse, made a huge impact on the psychedelic trance scene in 1998.
Simon Posford is also known for his solo productions as Hallucinogen and as driving force of the label Twisted Records UK. He is also part of Dub Trees (with Youth and Dubsahara), Celtic Cross (with Youth) and Younger Brother (with Prometheus).
Raja Ram is also a member of 1200 Micrograms (with GMS) and The Infinity Project (with Graham Wood, Anjee Sian and other contributors/collaborators). He was also founder of the indo-prog/raga rock group of the ’60s/’70s Quintessence.
The bands lyrics and samples are often about the entheogen Dimethyltryptamine (DMT). |

RANDOM RAB Emerging from his own distinct corner of the West Coast electronic music scene, Random Rab offers a powerful and unique contribution to sonic exploration. Often referred to as “The Master of Emotion” his music is patently beautiful and melodic. With diverse influences ranging from trip-hop, classical and Arabic to bass driven compositions, his songs are considered anthemic and timeless. As a multiinstrumentalist and singer, his tracks are organic, uplifting and stand on their own as a distinct genre. Listeners of all types of music can find something they can relate to in his sound.
There is no doubt that Rab understands a multitude of musical styles. He has been the front man of a heavy metal band, toured as a classical trumpet player, played bass in a country music band, was a scratch DJ for a jazz fusion project, was the singer for a rock band in Mexico and has collaborated with countless musicians of all styles. From acoustic performances in the Himalayas to rocking packed clubs in New York, Random Rab has found a way to connect with people of all kinds.
With a dedicated fanbase born from the San Francisco underground, Random Rab has become a Burning Man legend known for his sunrise sets that have now become one of his most sought after performances. His current popularity can often be traced to his breakout album, The Elucidation of Sorrow.. This album firmly established him as a recognizable force in the electronic music scene. His latest and 4th album aRose, catapulted him into the state of momentum that is now taking hold internationally.
Sometimes performing solo and at other times featuring collaborative musicians, the live experience is focused on a high quality translation of sound that is simultaneously sexy and psychedelic. |

BLUETECH Love songs to the source is the name of the latest album from the adept and on-the-move producer/remixer Bluetech (aka Evan Bartholomew & Evan Marc). After a steady stream of releases on the Waveform, Aleph Zero, thoughtless music and Somnia labels over the last seven years, the next phase of Bluetech’s sonic trajectory plots new and intrepid coordinates via canadian imprint interchill. in this unique full length release, listeners familiar with the bluetech sound are presented with an inviting point of departure into the warm, spacious realms of his signature mid and downtempo electronica.
Employing a more dub-wise and organic sound palette than on previous albums, Bluetech brought several collaborators on board in the making of love songs to the source including; featured vocal contributions from the likes of Dr. Israel, Katrina Blackstone, Mari Boine, Lady K, Tina Malia and Lynx; and musical input from Jamie Janover, Kilowatts and members of the march fourth marching band’s horn section. rounded out with a distinguished selection of instrumentals, this innovative, genre-bending chapter in the evolving bluetech chronicles is ripe with emotive vistas, reflective passages and all the evocative depth that one has come to expect of this highly talented us based producer.
In evan’s words, “love songs to the source is an audio exploration of the spark of divine light that oscillates in the heart of every being”, and with this intent, one finds music that is both uplifting and devotional as it passes seamlessly through a lush digital expanse of infinite expression. To embark upon this listening experience is to travel down an illuminated path beyond all stylistic bounds. |
